JTP finishes 6th at Rd. 3 of the Formula Drift series!
Rd. 3 at Wall Speedway went very well for me in the Falken Tire Ford Mustang. ASD had the car pretty much dialed in right out of the box, and it didn't take too long to dial in some wall riding runs. The car ran great all weekend and performed amazing. Every time I get behind the wheel I feel more comfortable and gain confidence. Qualifying went very well, as I put down a solid first run and then topping it with a #4 qualifying run on my second attempt. Here's a pic coming off the bank!
My first round of tandem competition I lined up against Mike Essa. He just came off a top 4 finish in Atlanta, and I knew he would be ready to battle. Fortunately the ASD prepped Mustang was too fast for Mike and I pulled several cars on his throughout the course and followed right on his door on my follow run giving me the top 32 win.
In top 16 I faced Sam Hubinette in the Dodge Challenger, a classic battle of American Muscle! I again pulled on him on my lead run and was able to close the door on my following run, again getting the win!
In my last battle of the evening I lined up against my fellow "brostang", Vaughn Gittin JR. I knew it was going to be a tough battle, seeing that we're in almost identical cars, and we also qualified withing .6 points of each other. The first run was extremely close, JR stayed within a car length throughout the course, making it a very even run.
The second run I followed and again stayed on JR's door, I knew I would have to close the gap more than what he did to get a win, although I gave it a little too much at the end, and tapped his car on the last corner causing me to make a correction which determined the battle.
Overall I'm very happy with the results of the weekend and can't wait to get back in the car for Rd. 4 at Evergreen Speedway in a couple weeks. I would like to thank Team Falken again for all their support and all the guys at ASD for making sure the Mustang is ready to rock every time i pull up to the line. I am truly blessed to have such a great team backing me this season!
